On October 18, the US imposed new tariffs of up to 25% on select goods from the European Union. Although the conflict stems from EU aircraft subsidies, the list of items is packed with specialty foods. These include Spanish olives, French wines, Italian meats, fruit juices, and oodles of cheese from numerous countries. Buyers and sellers rushed to get containers on the water. The impact is likely to be felt for months to come, and there's no end in sight to the EU trade war (see recent posturing of the US against French taxation of tech giants).
